You can’t always move the camera closer. Sometimes the detail you need is up a tower, across a facility, or beyond the reach of an inspection platform.
The Sony FCB-ER9500 combines 4K video at up to 60 fps, 25x optical zoom, and a 1/1.8-type STARVIS 2 CMOS sensor. It’s worth a closer look when your system needs detailed observation from a distance.
What 4K60 and 25x Zoom Bring to the Job
4K provides four times the pixel count of Full HD. At 60 fps, it also provides frequent updates as the scene changes—useful for observing movement and fine detail.
The 25x optical zoom lets you move from a wide view to a closer look without repositioning the camera. Picture checking a distant inspection point, then zooming back out to regain context. That flexibility is valuable in remote inspection, monitoring, and robotic systems.
The practical buying question: Does your application need that extra detail, and can the rest of your system carry it?
Built for Changing Light and Vibration
The STARVIS 2 sensor supports imaging in low light, while Wide Dynamic Range helps with scenes containing bright and dark areas. Sony’s Super Image Stabilizer offers Super and Super+ modes to reduce the effects of camera vibration.
These features give integrators more ways to handle difficult scenes. Lighting, exposure settings, and mounting still deserve attention during testing.
Plan the Connection Before Ordering
The FCB-ER9500 supports 4K video at up to 2160p60, outputs video in the TMDS signal format used by HDMI, and uses VISCA camera control at CMOS 3.3V levels. Choose an interface board that supports your required frame rate and connects to the equipment receiving the video.
-
For 6G-SDI installations: AVP’s 4K-6GSDI-SYNC interface board supports the ER9500 with 4K output up to 2160p29.97. This is the board’s output limit; the camera itself supports 2160p60.
-
For 4K60 over SDI: The dPict DP-801S converts the camera’s HDMI-format video to 12G-SDI at up to 2160p60. It also provides camera power and VISCA interfaces for monitoring, recording, and OEM integration.
-
For NVIDIA Jetson vision systems: The AGX Orin MIPI CSI-2 Bridge Board converts the ER9500’s HDMI-format video to 4-lane MIPI CSI-2 for Jetson AGX Orin. Its HDMI interface supports up to 4K60, with the ER9500 listed as a validated camera, plus VISCA control through an I²C-to-UART bridge.
AVP can help match the board, cabling, video format, and host configuration to your application. Checking the complete signal path early can save a very expensive round of “why is there no picture?”
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the FCB-ER9500 support 4K at 60 fps?
Yes. It supports 3840 × 2160 video at up to 60 fps. Interface and receiving hardware must support your selected format.
Is the 25x zoom optical or digital?
It is optical. Sony also specifies 30x StableZoom, which combines optical and digital zoom.
Can I connect it directly to a standard HDMI cable?
Plan for a compatible interface board or assembly. The camera provides HDMI-format TMDS signals through its module connector.
Does AVP’s 6G-SDI board deliver 4K60?
Its listed maximum 4K output is 2160p60. Confirm the required frame rate before choosing an interface.
